This year, the “Zelta Mikrofons” Latvian Music of the Year Award has introduced a new nomination “Most streamed record with Elektrum”, which collects the most streamed songs and compositions of Latvian musicians on Internet music sites during the the year. To promote the circulation of Latvian music, the weekly ranking of the most listened to records in streaming is also drawn up.
In the weekly ranking of the most streamed records, you will be able to familiarize yourself with the results that music created by Latvian authors and performers has achieved on streaming sites, both in Latvia and internationally. “The weekly chart of the most played records will allow Latvian music to be seen as a part of the whole music industry. It will also promote sports excitement, which plays an important role in popular music,” the organizers say.
The first week convincingly shows the general trends: rappers lead the chart of the most played records. In first place the scandalous duet M**** Sencis (the first word after the dots is the one you can imagine, but that can’t be written due to censorship…) and the Grandmasters Neons song “Pie*** seju” (you can also imagine, which is the first name), in second place – “Bermudu divstūra” and “Apvedceļa” hit “Brother, with life nekule”, and in third place – “Singapore Satin” collaboration with the group ” A -europa” in the song “Uz seen”. Also in the other places, hip-hop representatives mostly line up.
It should be noted that in addition to popular music streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon Music and others, the top also contains YouTube results, which take longer to collect and process, so they are only processed upon request. Data monitoring is provided by the British company “Ranger Computers”, which has been in the music business since 1993.
“Zelta Mikrofons” producer Elita Mīlgrāve: “For some time now, my colleagues in the music industry have been urging me to find out what is happening with current recordings on streaming services – what is required of Latvian music? This year, in a heated discussion among the LaMPA members, it was decided to take this step and include not only the judging evaluations, but also commercial information in the “Golden Microphone”.We have decided to publish weekly data in the future with the aim to draw attention to music consumption on the Internet. I am grateful that this modern solution is provided by our partner, supported by LaIPA and the biggest record companies in Latvia and the world.”
This Thursday, January 12, the nominees of “Zelta Mikrofons’23” will be announced, including the five nominees in the nomination “Most streamed record with Elektrum”, which collects the most streamed songs and compositions of Latvian musicians on music on Internet sites within the year, released from 2021 .December 1, 2022 to December 1, 2022 and streamed worldwide.
