Zell commemorates its former mayor Josef Meichsner

Much time would not have been missing until the 100th birthday. Even so, Zell’s former mayor, Josef Meichsner, was able to look back on a fulfilled and long life. Especially politically, he set standards in the community at the gates of Würzburg.

20 years in the executive chair

While the CSU member was elected mayor of Zell in March 1964, the Beatles were just at the height of their popularity. Ludwig Erhard had just taken over the office of Federal Chancellor from Konrad Adenauer. When Meichsner left the town hall executive chair 20 years later, the Federal Chancellor was already called Helmut Kohl.

In a press release, today’s CSU local chairman Anita Feuerbach, who was Zell’s mayor until spring of this year, devotes herself to the (political) life of her predecessor: “Meichsner’s striving for a progressive community was a role model for his successors and a task for the future equip. ” He laid the foundation stone for Zell am Main? “as we know it today and how we can feel good.”

Numerous infrastructure projects

Feuerbach lists the infrastructure projects that fell in Meichsner’s era: the purchase of the Unterzell monastery garden, the community center, the construction of the bypass road, the new main canal in the main street and the development of the Küsterberg, Scheckert and Eli-Nord building areas. “In this way, the sports center with Main Valley Hall, soccer field and tennis courts on Scheckert and the new cemetery on Eli-Nord could be built,” writes the CSU local chairwoman.

The incumbent mayor Joachim Kipke (center of Zeller) paid tribute to Meichsner’s services. He had decisively influenced and shaped the development of his home community over the decades. For this, the father of two sons received the medal of honor from Markt Zell in 2006. Meichsner was already a member of the local council from 1960 and 1964. Between 1966 and 1972 and 1978 and 1984 he was also a member of the district council for the CSU. From 1961 to 1967 he was chairman of the TG Zell.

Even as a boy at every fire brigade exercise

The former mayor belonged to the music and choral society for almost his entire life, and he also supported the volunteer fire brigade. On the edge of its 140-year existence, Meichsner said in autumn 2002: “Even as a boy I was present at every fire brigade exercise on the Zeller threshing floor. At that time, the alarm was sounded with a horn, the bugler raced through Zell on his bike. To extinguish it, one pulled walk out with syringe and pump trucks. ”

Last but not least, Feuerbach noticed that Meichsner was also ahead of his time when it came to working with orchards. “In this way, the citizens could have their apples pressed into apple juice on his fruit press for years.” Meichsner died one day before Christmas Eve at the age of 98.
