There are themes that come and go. The news makes them explode in our faces, they last for a few hours, sometimes days, then disappear with the same speed with which they have fallen on us in an avalanche. Among these, the debate on whether to make jokes is one of those to which public opinion is most sensitive. We have been talking about it for days after the Chris Rock-Will Smith case at the Oscars and in Italy, in the last few hours, for the story that concerns Pietro Diomede.
Comedian known to the television audience for his participation in various shows, Diomede ended up at the center of a wave of criticism for the jokes published on his Twitter account, which touch on very delicate topics of the news, such as the tragic story of Carol Maltesikilled and torn to pieces, the alleged poisoning of Abramovic related to the disease from which Bebe Vio suffers, or the Oscar itself, with a scurrilous reference to the Williams sisters.
Protests on social media, Zelig stops the show
Within hours, his tweets became the subject of very heavy criticisms and reports by many users, addressed in particular to the official account of Zelig, the Milanese local historian from which the TV show was born, which April 12 was supposed to host the Diomede for his show. “He would”, precisely, because following the controversy Zelig communicated through the official account that he had excluded Diomede from programming and completely dissociated himself from the artist’s tweet (with explicit reference to the one referring to the story of the hard actress killed in the Brescia area ) absolutely disapproving of the tone of the joke.
No declaration of Diomedes
Leading personalities, such as Alessandro Gassman, who addressed Diomede directly in this way, also joined the chorus of criticisms: “I think you represent fully, the lowest and most repulsive step of the human species. Be ashamed and apologize to the victim’s family.” The story will certainly open a debate related to the opportunity to joke on certain issues and the quality of the jokes. There is currently no statement by Diomede, on whose account the disputed lines still appear as well as the tweet announcing the show on April 12th.
