This is Zelensky’s second visit to the US since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February of last year.
“Olena Zelensky and I came to the United States for the meeting of the UN General Assembly and a visit to Washington,” Zelensky announced on the social network platform X, mentioning his wife.
“I will attend the General Assembly, the Sustainable Development Goals Summit and the Security Council meetings at the UN, as well as a number of important bilateral talks,” Zelenskiy said.
The President of Ukraine is expected to address the General Assembly on Tuesday.
“Ukraine will make a concrete proposal to UN member states on how to strengthen the principle of territorial integrity and improve the UN’s ability to disrupt and stop aggression,” Zelensky said.
Zelensky said that he will begin his visit to the United States by visiting Ukrainian soldiers who are “undergoing treatment and rehabilitation” in the country.
After that, the Ukrainian president will go to Washington to meet with Biden and “leaders of the US Congress and parties, the military leadership, American businessmen, journalists and members of the Ukrainian community.”
“I will thank the United States for its leading role in supporting our struggle for freedom and independence,” Zelensky said.
