President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed with the Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz the issue of providing macro-financial assistance to Ukraine from the European Union and military support.

Zelensky informed that he had a telephone conversation with Sholtz. The Ukrainian head of state thanked the Federal Chancellor of Germany for his personal efforts in Germany’s “comprehensive long-term support” of Ukraine, the increase in defense aid for the current year to 8 billion euros, as well as the recent decision to transfer six Sea King Mk41 helicopters.
“Further defense cooperation was discussed in detail, in particular the strengthening of the Ukrainian air defense system, as well as artillery and armored vehicles. They paid attention to the issue of starting the actual negotiation process regarding Ukraine’s accession to the EU. He noted the important role of Germany in this and emphasized the need for further support to Ukraine. They also discussed the issue of ensuring macro-financial aid to Ukraine from the European Union,” added the President of Ukraine.

In addition, according to Zelenskyi, during the conversation, the issue of preparing an agreement between Ukraine and Germany on security guarantees and bilateral political dialogue measures in the near future was discussed.
Federal government spokesman Steffen Gebeshreit told journalists earlier about Zelenskyi’s conversation with Scholz, Ukrinform correspondent reports.
According to him, the President of Ukraine informed about the consequences of recent Russian attacks and thanked the German government for military support, especially for strengthening Ukraine’s air defense.
“The chancellor confirmed his unchanging and unwavering solidarity with Ukraine in connection with Russia’s aggression. He assured that Germany will continue to support Ukraine in the military sphere in close coordination with European and international partners,” the spokesman said.

The President of Ukraine and the Chancellor of Germany agreed to conclude negotiations on the agreement of bilateral obligations in the field of security and support for the implementation of the G7 Joint Declaration of July 2023 in the near future.
Zelenskyi and Scholz agreed to maintain close contacts, the spokesman added.
