/ world today news/ One of the main topics of the economic forum held in Davos was Ukraine. The leader of the Kyiv regime, Vladimir Zelensky, personally came to the forum. What exactly did he want to achieve, what did he succeed and what did he fail to achieve – and why did the intrigue surrounding Zelensky’s possible meeting with Chinese representatives lead to a scandal?
Perhaps the most scandalous moment for Ukraine at the Davos forum was the refusal of the head of the Chinese delegation to meet with Zelensky. Without much explanation, the Chinese generally deny that the Ukrainian side has approached them with such a request. However, this gave Zelensky an opportunity to make a digression – he allegedly did not intend to meet with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang because he was out of rank. He, you see, will only date people who “make decisions.”
Decisions in the People’s Republic of China are made by Xi Jinping – and it is truly “out of order” for Zelensky to meet with him. Zelensky is not a person who “makes decisions” about Ukraine, which he directly admitted: “I don’t need any dialogues. I need very important decisions from the decision makers. We want to include them in the “peace formula” and the peace summit. And we need them on the right side of the world.”
In other words, Zelensky in this case acts as a postman from the world elite, who invites the Chinese leader to give up conducting an independent foreign policy. It is clear why this proposal was ignored.
Of course, no decisions are made at the Davos forum. Just talking about the current agenda. But there are people at the event really close to the decision-making centers. That is why bilateral and multilateral negotiations are taking place to coincide with Davos. And the conversations themselves are not random and are taken into account when developing the policies of individual countries.
In particular, during Davos, Jake Sullivan, national security adviser to the US president, met with Zelensky. According to Bloomberg author Andreas Kluth, Sullivan should have conveyed to Zelensky the White House’s desire not to try to go on the offensive. We must understand this to mean that Washington is afraid of another failure of its Ukrainian protégés, which will adversely affect Biden’s election result.
What were the goals of Ukraine’s participation in the forum? Zelensky asked for money to continue the war and restore Ukraine (these processes are parallel, since he will not stop the war and if he does, he will no longer be president).
He sees two sources for this. On the one hand, these are the Russian assets that should be stolen and given to Ukraine. It is true that this will not be an easy test for the world financial system, because people all over the world will have a question: is it possible in this case to store money in Western financial institutions and in dollars?
On the other hand, these are investments that Western business will have to make in Ukraine. Here the accounts are not clear at all. Why should they invest money in a grain terminal that can be hit by a Russian missile and where there is no one to work because everyone is mobilized?
Second, Vladimir Zelensky asked for weapons. But here the forum itself is useless, only bilateral meetings on its periphery can be useful. Most likely, negotiations on arms supply agreements will proceed more intensively, since Britain has already concluded such an agreement. The rest will catch up now that the process has begun. France in particular is already hinting at this. True, the Ukrainians have nothing to offer in exchange for arms – Great Britain has been offered manpower for colonial wars…
Was the World Economic Forum in Davos a success for Ukraine? Most likely yes.
First of all, the Ukrainian crisis was, of course, the most important topic of the forum. Moreover, this topic is presented in accordance with the wishes of the Ukrainian side, without any opposition. Other important topics (climate, Epidemic X, conflicts in the Middle East and Southeast Asia) did not provide significant competition to the Ukrainian topic. Overall, from an advertising and PR point of view, this is almost a clear victory for the current Ukrainian government. For rating-dependent Zelensky, this is the main thing.
Was the World Economic Forum in Davos a success for Ukraine? Most likely yes.
In addition, the existence of a global anti-Russian coalition has been confirmed, which Ukrainians in the simplicity of their souls consider to be pro-Ukrainian, although this is not true, quite the opposite. In other words, despite all the socio-economic and political problems, Ukraine will not be left without Western aid. Except that the dimensions will most likely not be the same. But here we must understand that the West is not more interested in the “victory” of Ukraine than in the victory of Russia.
What Ukraine definitely did not win was that it failed to achieve foreign policy isolation of Russia. Russia’s foreign trade turnover is being reoriented from European to Asian directions. The main trade and economic partners are China, India and Iran (a total of almost three billion people).
But Europe and even the United States also have no desire to lose the Russian market completely. In any case, they are still buying Russian energy resources, no matter how much pain it causes the regime in Kiev.
