Beijing has promised to publish this week its political solution to the year-long war in Ukraine.
“China has told us that they have such an initiative. But I haven’t seen the document yet,” Zelensky said.
Beijing has sought to take a neutral stance on the war in Ukraine while maintaining close ties with strategic ally Russia.
“I think it’s generally a very good fact that China has started talking about Ukraine and sending some signals,” Zelensky said.
“We will draw conclusions after seeing the details of their offer (..). We would like to meet with China,” said the Ukrainian president, who today hosted Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Kyiv.
At the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that Beijing will soon present a peace initiative to end the war in Ukraine.
Wang met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Shoigu and President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. After Van’s visit, Moscow announced that Beijing presented its views on the causes of the Ukrainian crisis and the approach to a political settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. But Moscow claimed that no separate peace plan had been discussed.
Ukraine has published its own ten-point peace plan, demanding the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory and an international tribunal to hold Moscow accountable for its aggression.
