Zelensky visits Kherson after Russian withdrawal

Zelenskyj: The situation in Kherson “is still very dangerous because of the mines”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of committing “hundreds of war crimes” in the southern Kherson region.

Zelensky said in an address to the nation on Sunday evening that “investigators have documented more than 400 Russian war crimes and have found the bodies of civilians and military personnel,” according to local news agency “Ukrinform”.

“In Kherson, the Russian army left behind the same atrocities as in other regions of our country,” he added.

He indicated the continuation of the “neutralization and arrest of Russian soldiers and mercenaries remaining in that region”, underlining that his country “will find every assassin and bring him to justice without any doubt”.

The Ukrainian president said those concerned are working to “ensure stability and restore law and order in 226 settlements in the Kherson region, where more than 100,000 local residents live.”

He explained that they are “doing their best” to restore public services, such as electricity, water, communications, the Internet and others.

“Our presence will be felt and leave a feeling that there is life,” Zelensky added.

He warned that the situation in Kherson “is still very dangerous due to mines”, urging residents to “exercise extreme caution and immediately report all dangerous objects to rescuers”.

And on Friday, the Ukrainian president announced the entry of his country’s forces into the city of Kherson, after Russian forces announced the completion of their withdrawal from it to positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River.
