The Ukrainian president told the head of the European Council about the aggravation of the situation in Donbas.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday, February 17, informed the President of the European Council Charles Michel about the situation in Donbas.

“From Mariupol, I had a conversation with President of the European Council Charles Michel. He informed about the security situation and today’s provocative shelling, in particular Stanytsia Luhanska. He thanked for the initiative to hold a donor conference in support of Ukraine,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter.

According to Reuters, the EU said it was closely monitoring the situation with shelling in the Donbass.

It is noted that at the meeting of EU leaders they will not discuss specific new sanctions against Russia, since this issue causes controversy.

“The reason for the sanctions is a matter of political assessment. We are not entering into this discussion yet. We are closely monitoring the situation with the shelling in Donbas, we are aware that this can be used as a test or justification,” the EU representative said.

According to him, the informal summit will be in the main report of the Presidents of France and Germany after their talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Recall that today it became known about the shelling of Stanytsia Luhanska and nearby villages. In particular, separatist shelling hit a kindergarten And railway depot.

According to the military, today the intensity of the shelling increased significantly. Since the beginning of the day, almost 30 violations of the silence regime have been recorded.

The separatists also claim to intensify the shelling of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
