Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said last night that he had not yet received “authorization from Washington and London to use long-range missiles against Russia, certainly due to fear of escalation,” AFP reported.
“Neither America nor the United Kingdom gave us permission to use such weapons to strike on Russian territory, on any target and at any distance,” so Kiev did not do it, the Ukrainian president told reporters . “I think they fear escalation,” he added.
Western military aid “stepped up in early September and we are happy about that. We feel it,” added Zelensky.
The Ukrainian president criticized the peace initiative on the war in Ukraine proposed in the spring by China and Brazil, saying it was not a “concrete plan”.
“I don’t think it’s a concrete plan, because I don’t see any specific actions or steps, just some generalization of the processes. In a generalization, something is always hidden,” he told the media, including AFP, with his statements embargoed until this morning.
