Zelensky: The Russian army fired at the Zaporizhzhia NPP

Russia needs to answer for the very fact of creating a threat to the nuclear power plant. And this is not only another argument in favor of recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. This is also an argument in favor of applying strict sanctions against the entire Russian nuclear industry – from Rosatom to all the companies and individuals associated with it. This is purely a safety issue. The one who poses a nuclear threat to other nations is certainly not capable of safely using nuclear technologies,” the Ukrainian president said.

The Ukrainian company “Enerhoatom” announced on Friday that Russian troops fired twice on the territory of Zaporizhzhya NPP. First, three shells were recorded near the industrial complex, where the enemy hit a high-voltage communication line. The NPP was then fired upon by the reactive salvo fire systems, with the projectiles hitting near one of the power units housing the nuclear reactor.

Russia claimed that Ukrainian forces had struck the Zaporizhia NPP and accused Zelensky’s government of carrying out acts of “nuclear terrorism”.

Russian troops have been in control of the Zaporizhia NPP since March, but Ukrainian personnel continue to work there. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) this week recognized the situation at the Zaporizhia NPP as “unstable”.
