SPEAKING: President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke to the US Congress via video link. Here you can see the whole speech.

He highlighted major events from the history of the United States when he addressed Congress on Wednesday afternoon. Zelensky compared Russia’s war in Ukraine to Pearl Harbor and attacked on September 11, saying it was terrorism that Europe had not seen in 80 years.

Hugs Pearl Harbor in 1941 when the sky was black from planes attacking dives, he said as he reminded the Americans and the air raids that led the United States into World War II.

Remember September 11 when the evil tried to turn the urban divers, independent territory, into battlefields.

Finally, the Ukrainian president showed a video of the great devastation in his country before making an appeal in English:

STRONG APPEAL: The last part of the speech was given by the President in English.

Highlighted the desire for a flight ban

Yesterday, Zelensky asked the Canadian parliament for more Western sanctions against Russia and the introduction of a no-fly zone over the country.

– We do not ask for much. We ask for justice and real support, he is said to have said according to the news agency Reuters.

Both Biden and NATO have repeatedly said that closing the airspace over Ukraine is not the way to go. They point to the potential for great escalation if this happens.

In his speech today, Zelensky again emphasized the desire for a no-fly zone for Ukraine, and said that Russia has turned the sky over the country into a dead zone.

– I have a dream. These words are known for every single one of the dives, Zelenskyj said, referring to the famous speech of civil rights activist Martin Luther King.

– I have to protect our airspace. I need diving help, he added.

USA with more help to Ukraine

US President Joe Biden will announce a new $ 800 million package of military aid to Ukraine on Wednesday, sources in several media outlets said last night.

The funds come on top of the $ 200 million that was sent over the weekend. Thus, a total of one billion dollars in aid will be promised in the last week, says an anonymous service person in the White House to the news agency AFP.

The sum corresponds to around NOK 9 billion. It was the Wall Street Journal that first reported on the aid funds.

Progress in the negotiations

Both Ukraine and Russia say they see progress in the negotiations, three weeks after the war began.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj said on Wednesday that talks with Russia have become more realistic. While the Russian foreign minister says he sees a hope for compromise, Reuters reports.

The talks are scheduled to continue on Wednesday. It will be the third day in a row that they negotiate. Former attempts at conversations have been terminated after one day. Both sides say this is a sign of progress, and that one is now entering a decisive phase.
