President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree which introduced the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of December 28 on sanctions against TV channels “The first independent” and UkrLive associates of the people’s deputy from “HLE” by Viktor Medvedchuk.
Sanctions for a period of five years have been imposed against Mediaholding Novosti LLC, created by employees of Medvedchuk’s closed TV channels, Time Media LLC and Teleprostranstvo LLC. According to the “Media Detector”, the companies are associated with MPs from the “OPZH” Nestor Shufrich and Taras Kozak.
The decree comes into force on the day of its publication.
Sanctions, in particular, include blocking assets, prohibiting the use of radio frequency resources, limiting or terminating the provision of telecommunications services and the use of public telecommunications networks.
On February 2, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on the imposition of sanctions against the MP and ally of the pro-Russian politician Victor Medvedchuk Taras Kozak and eight related legal entities. Sanctions included blocking TV channels 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZiK.
The TV channels in their statement criticized the sanctions and called the decision of the authorities “political reprisals against objectionable media.”
