Zelensky says stalemate in war with Russia is not an option

The stalemate in the war with Russia is not an option for Ukraine. Pushing Russian forces back into pre-invasion positions would be a major temporary victory for Ukraine, but full sovereignty over its territory remains the ultimate goal.

“We are inferior in terms of equipment and therefore are not able to move forward. We will suffer more losses, and people are my priority,” he said.

Zelensky stressed that victory must be achieved on the battlefield, but he also insists that he is open to peace talks with President Vladimir Putin despite the atrocities committed by Russian forces in Ukraine.

He added that Western sanctions had little effect on Russia’s stance and lashed out at partners for calling for an unconditional ceasefire in the conflict, namely a halt by Moscow of its offensive.

“Everyone acts like a cipher. They support Ukraine, but at the same time they check what can be done to ease sanctions so that business does not suffer. How can we achieve a ceasefire on the territory of Ukraine without listening to the position of this country? It is very amazing,” – Zelensky said.
