Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that his forces now control more than 1,250 square kilometers of Russia’s Kursk region, Reuters reported.
“To date, our forces control over 1,250 square kilometers of enemy territory and 92 settlements,” Zelensky said in a speech to ambassadors in Ukraine.
He again called on Ukraine’s allies to authorize Western weapons strikes deep into Russian territory, saying the lack of such authorization was the main reason Ukraine could not stop the advance of Russian troops on the front line in the east.
“The naïve, illusory concept of so-called red lines with regard to Russia, which dominated the assessment of the war by some partners, has collapsed these days somewhere near Suja,” he said in an address to ambassadors, referring to the border city in Russia’s Kursk region. which is currently under Ukrainian control.
“The Russian border zone opposite our Sumy region is almost cleared of Russian military presence. “A few months ago, many people around the world would have said that this is impossible and would have crossed Russia’s strictest ‘red line,'” Zelensky said.
“If our partners had allowed us long-range strikes against Russia, we would not have had to launch the Kursk operation,” he said, adding that “this operation is the ‘biggest investment’ in bringing Ukrainian prisoners of war home.”
He also emphasized the importance of international support, calling on Ukraine’s partners to provide long-term capabilities to further counter Russian aggression, while urging Ukrainian diplomats to continue garnering global support and imposing tougher sanctions against Russia, pointing out , that the current sanctions have already significantly weakened the Kremlin’s economy, writes BTA.
