The President Vladimir Zelensky believes that Ilovaisk may repeat itself in Mariupol. The Russian invaders demand that the Ukrainian defenders surrender in order to escape. He announced this during a conversation with the Ukrainian media, among which was LIGA.net.

“The situation is definitely not improving every day. Our military is blocked. There is a humanitarian crisis, there is no food, no water, no medicine. Nevertheless, the guys are defending themselves,” Zelensky said about the situation in Mariupol.
He added that the occupiers are constantly transmitting proposals to the defenders of Mariupol to surrender and go into captivity through their agents in the city.
According to him, they put psychological pressure on the defenders and promise to save their lives in return.
“I know that they offered our people to surrender, to go into captivity. We know this through many channels. Therefore, they constantly throw this information through their people, exert psychological pressure so that they surrender and go into captivity. Then they will save their lives” , the president said.
According to Zelensky, the occupiers have different attitudes towards different Ukrainian military.
“There are military men there whom they hate. I don’t believe that they will keep them alive there, even if they promised them.– row.), I think so, but you need to ask our military,” Zelensky added.
Zelensky also named several points that could help save Mariupol: give Ukraine powerful weapons in time and temporarily cease fire in the region.
“The second issue of the negotiations is a ceasefire regime, at least in the territory of the South or Mariupol, in order to carry away at least the wounded and the dead. This would be the first step. It depends on the desire of the Russian Federation. We know for sure and saw their reactions,” Zelensky added.
