Zelensky noted Germany’s help in the fight against the Russian Federation – Lb.ua news

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, had a telephone conversation with the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz. They discussed an increase in defense aid for 2024 to 8 billion euros.

This is stated in the message of the press service President of Ukraine.

During the conversation, Zelensky thanked Olaf Scholz for his personal efforts regarding comprehensive long-term support of Ukraine in countering Russian aggression and increasing defense aid for the current year to 8 billion euros.

The President noted the important role of Germany in mobilizing partners in the EU to strengthen the defense support of our country.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy highly appreciated the recent decision to transfer six Sea King Mk41 helicopters to Ukraine. He informed the Chancellor of Germany about the current situation at the front and the priority needs of Ukrainian defenders.

The parties discussed in detail further defense cooperation, in particular strengthening the Ukrainian air defense system to protect the sky from the air terror of the Russian Federation, providing the defenders of Ukraine with artillery and armored vehicles.

The interlocutors also paid attention to the beginning of the actual negotiation process regarding Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Olaf Scholz for Germany’s important role in this matter.

The head of state of Ukraine and the chancellor of Germany also discussed the need to provide macro-financial assistance to our country from the EU.

In addition, the leaders discussed the preparation of an agreement between Ukraine and Germany on security guarantees and bilateral political dialogue in the near future.
