Politicians discussed the possibility of organizing the next summit in the Normandy format, noted in the OP.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Head of the German Foreign Ministry Annalena Berbock. About it informs press service of the Ukrainian leader on Monday, January 17.

It is noted that at the beginning of the meeting, Zelensky noted the importance of the visit of the head of German diplomacy to Ukraine, in particular, against the background of the tense situation around the country’s borders. In this regard, he expressed gratitude to the German government for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

“The security situation around Ukraine, the course of the peace process were discussed in detail, and it was noted that restrictive measures, among other things, preventive sanctions, could prevent further escalation of aggression. Noting the unity of approaches to the peace process, in particular, the cluster approach to the implementation of the Minsk agreements, the parties expressed hope that soon the organization of the next summit in the Normandy format will soon come out,” the President’s Office said in a statement.

It is also noted that during the meeting considerable attention was paid to strengthening the energy security of Ukraine.

“The President stressed that Nord Stream 2 is a geopolitical project and a weapon directed both against our state and against the whole of Europe. It was jointly stated that the use of the project as a weapon would lead to tough response measures,” the President’s Office emphasizes.

The interlocutors also noted the commonality of approaches of Ukraine and Germany to the development of cooperation in the energy sector, in particular, regarding the “green” transformation and renewable energy sources. In particular, it was noted that the practical implementation of common priorities will be facilitated by the opening of an office by Germany in Kiev to implement Ukrainian-German projects in hydrogen energy.

“The need for joint implementation of specific steps was also noted in order to strengthen the energy security of Ukraine, among other things, guaranteeing long-term gas transit through the territory of our state. Special attention was paid to the discussion of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. The importance of strengthening the European perspective of our state was noted and hope was expressed for appropriate support from the Federal Republic of Germany,” the OP reports.

Earlier, Annalena Burbock announced that Germany would lead the direction of the policy of non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea as part of the Crimean Platform, and will also restart the Normandy format.
