On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky again appealed to Western partners to help strengthen his country’s air defenses.
Zelensky said in statements released at the NATO defense ministers meeting in Brussels that his country has only about ten percent of what it needs from air defenses.
The United States and other NATO members have already supplied Ukraine with weapons, but Kiev has repeatedly said it needs more.
Zelensky has again ruled out talks with Russia.
Western countries announced on Wednesday that Ukraine has received new air defense systems, underlining their commitment to continue providing military aid to Kiev.
This took place during a meeting attended by 50 countries at the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the Belgian capital, Brussels.
The meeting comes after John Kirby, a spokesman for the US National Security Council, announced on Tuesday that the US will accelerate the dispatch of advanced air defense missile systems (NASAMS) to Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden on Monday promised his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, to support his country’s air defenses.
So far the US has agreed to send a total of eight NASAMS missile systems to Ukraine, two of which are expected to be delivered soon and six over a longer time frame.
