Zelensky hopes to meet Vladimir Putin to end the war

Jakarta

Lead consultant Russia in peace negotiations with Ukraine stressed that it was willing to continue the dialogue. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky insists only Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to meet in person to discuss ending the war.

Russian and Ukrainian negotiators have held talks since Moscow forces launched an invasion on February 24. But both sides said the talks had stopped.

Zelensky told local Ukrainian television last week that it was impossible to stop the war without involving diplomacy.

As reported by Reuters, Tuesday (24/5/2022), Zelensky’s desire to meet Putin was conveyed in a statement via a video link to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. Zelensky said organizing talks with Russia became increasingly difficult after what he described as evidence of Russia’s actions against civilians during the invasion of Ukraine.

Russia denies targeting civilians carrying out ‘special operations’ to disarm Ukraine’s military capabilities.

“The president of the Russian Federation decides everything,” Zelensky said through an interpreter to the WEF forum in Davos.

“If we talk about ending this war without him personally, that decision cannot be taken,” he said.
