During a working visit to the United States, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife Elena visited the Memorial to the Victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, opened in November 2015 in the center of Washington. This was announced on Tuesday, August 31, according to the press service of the President’s Office.

“The head of state and his wife laid symbolic sheaves of wheat at the foot of the Memorial. After that, members of the official delegation of Ukraine honored the memory of the victims of the terrible tragedy of the Ukrainian people,” the message says.

It is also reported that the head of the US Regional Committee for the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people, Mikhail Savkiv, and the author of the Memorial project, architect Larisa Kurilas, acquainted Volodymyr Zelenskyy with the history of the creation of the monument.

Recall US Senate recognizes Holodomor in Ukraine as genocide in October 2018 by adopting a bipartisan resolution.

As reported, Zelenskiy on August 31 started a visit to the USA… Tomorrow he will meet with his American counterpart Joe Biden. Initially, the meeting was scheduled for August 30, but then postponed twice for a day – because of the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.
