President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with a bipartisan delegation from the US Congress. The meeting discussed Russian aggression against Ukraine, Russian passportization of Donbas residents and Nord Stream 2. This is reported on site heads of state.
The US delegation included Senators Robert Portman, Chris Murphy, Jean Shaheen, Amy Klobuchar, Richard Blumenthal and Roger Wicker.
Zelensky briefed the members of the delegation on the security situation around Ukraine and the steps that would help de-escalate and prevent further Russian aggression.
The interlocutors expressed a common position that the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2 is a challenge for the energy security of both Ukraine and the European Union.
“The head of state drew attention to the fact that Russia continues to conduct an active campaign to passportize the population in the temporarily occupied territories, trying to create a pretext for escalation under the guise of “protecting Russian citizens,” the press service added.
Also during the conversation, issues of the internal political life of Ukraine were discussed.
Recall that the delegation of US senators arrived in Ukraine on January 17. The delegation includes representatives of both Democrats and Republicans.
Also on January 17, Zelensky met with the German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock. Politicians discussed the possibility of organizing the next summit in the Normandy format.
