Zelensky commented on the shelling of the Svyatogorsk Lavra

The wooden skete of the Svyatogorsk Lavra burned down completely

The President of Ukraine calls on UNESCO to deprive Russia of membership in the organization. Say, a country that destroyed so many monuments, cultural and social facilities, there is no place.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the shelling of the Svyatogorsk Lavra in Donbas by the Russian army, which burned down. About this he wrote in the Telegram.

Russian artillery hit the Svyatogorsk Lavra in the Donetsk region again today. The Monastery of All Saints was destroyed. It was consecrated back in 1912. For the first time it was destroyed during the Soviet era. Subsequently rebuilt. And so the Russian army burned it down. On the same week, on Wednesday, Russian shells exploded right in the cells of the monks of the Lavra. Four people were killed and four more were seriously injured. Svyatogorsk has been under fire since May. The invaders know exactly which object they are shelling. They know that there are no military targets on the territory of the Svyatogorsk Lavra. They know that about 300 civilians, including 60 children, are hiding there from hostilities. But all the same, the Russian army shells the Lavra, like the entire Donbass. Like any other territory and any other object of Ukraine, which can be reached. They don’t care what exactly to turn into ruins,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.

The President also added that on May 31, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appealed to UNESCO with a demand to deprive Russia of its membership in the organization.

“Ukrainian diplomacy is working on this. No state, except Russia, has destroyed so many monuments, cultural and social objects in Europe since the Second World War. Every church burned by Russia in Ukraine, every school blown up, every destroyed memorial proves that Russia has no place in UNESCO,” the guarantor wrote.

The head of state noted that he expects a logical and fair response from the UN and UNESCO.

In the meantime, a video of what was left of the skete of the Svyatogorsk Lavra appeared on the network – one populous place.

Recall that in Svyatogorsk, Donetsk region, on Saturday, June 4, as a result of shelling by the invaders the wooden Skete of All Saints caught fire Svyatogorsk Lavra.
