There were 26,870 Covid-19 cases registered in Ukraine last day, a new record in Eastern Europe.
“I call on everyone to turn off social networks and turn on the brain. I want us not to be afraid of the networks, but to be afraid of the coronavirus,” Zelensky said at a congress of local and regional authorities in Odessa.
“We need to be vaccinated,” the president urged. “That’s the only solution.”
Although three manufacturers of Covid-19 vaccines are available in Ukraine – AstraZeneca, Pfizer and China-made CoronaVac – only 20% of the population are fully vaccinated.
However, with the new restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 crisis, interest in vaccination has grown rapidly, with around 290,000 people currently being vaccinated against Covid-19 in vaccination centers every day.
” Today we are good [vakcinācijas] pace, but despite this, the number of deaths is rising, ” warned Zelensky, urging a further increase in vaccination rates.
Since the beginning of the pandemic in Ukraine, 2.8 million cases of Covid-19 have been registered, 66,000 people have died from Covid-19.
Ministry of Health has set a goal of getting 300,000 people vaccinated every day, Zelensky said.
Oleksiy Danilov, the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, previously announced that the “Russian network”, which had campaigned against vaccination and to which a “church” was linked, had been exposed.
Russian anti-scams have attacked the Ukrainian information space, Danilov said.
