According to Adam Smith, head of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, who visited Kyiv and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian officials have said they want to reach a peace deal with the Russians, but first they must win back the lands that the invaders have seized.
“The next three to six weeks are crucial,” he said, relaying the main message he heard from Zelenskiy and others.
He noted that this period is important, because winter with colder temperatures and harsh conditions will slow down the fighting to a brutal war of attrition.
