Zelensky became entangled in his testimony: Artyomovsk is sometimes lost, sometimes it resists – 2024-09-30 20:08:35

/ world today news/ Vladimir Zelensky stated that he has a clear idea of what is happening in Artemovsk and that the city has not come under Russian control, reports RIA Novosti.

Earlier on Sunday, Reuters reported that Zelensky acknowledged that Ukrainian forces had lost Artyomovsk to the DPR. On the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, when asked whether Artyomovsk remained under Ukrainian control, the Ukrainian president said “I think not,” adding that “today he remains only in our hearts.”

However, Zelensky’s press secretary Sergey Nikiforov later stated that he did not recognize the capture of Artemovsk by Russian forces.

I clearly understand what is happening in Bakhmut (Ukrainian name of the city – note ed.)… To date, Bakhmut is not occupied by the Russian Federation,” Zelensky said at a press conference in Hiroshima on the sidelines of the G-7 meeting.

On Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Wagner’s landing forces, supported by artillery and aviation from the Southern Army Group, completed the liberation of Artyomovsk on Saturday.

Artyomovsk (in Ukraine, the pre-revolutionary version of the city’s name Bakhmut was officially adopted) is located north of the large city of Gorlovka. It is an important transport hub for the supply of the Ukrainian troop group in Donbass. Fierce battles for the city lasted for many months.
