Now is the time to end Russia’s destructive war and save thousands of lives, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in a video speech at the G20 summit in Bali on Tuesday.
“I am convinced that now is the time when Russia’s destructive war must and can be stopped,” Zelensky said. “It will save thousands of lives.”
Zelensky condemned the “insane threats of nuclear weapons made by Russian officials”.
“There is and cannot be an excuse for nuclear blackmail,” he added, thanking the G19 for “clarifying it.”
The leader of Ukraine also called for the extension and indefinite extension of the grain deal concluded between the UN and Turkey, which is due to expire on November 19.
“I believe our grain export initiative deserves an indefinite extension, regardless of when the war ends,” Zelensky said, calling for the deal to be extended to other ports.
The Ukrainian leader also accused Russia of “trying to weaponize the cold” by hitting critical infrastructure before next winter.
Zelensky also backed US-led efforts to price cap Russian oil exports “so that energy resources are no longer used as weapons.”
“If Russia is trying to deprive Ukraine, Europe and all energy consumers around the world of price predictability and stability, the response should be to forcefully limit export prices to Russia,” Zelensky said.
