The address of the President of Ukraine follows the day after the arrival of Lithuanian politicians in Ukraine, who visited the suburbs of Kiev to see with their own eyes the crimes committed by the occupying forces, as well as to express support to the Kiev government.
According to Zelensky, Russia’s war in Ukraine has led Europe to ask itself the strategic question of whether the values on which post-World War II countries were built are still alive or obsolete and can serve as museum exhibits for tourists. According to him, the future depends on how united the European countries will be at that time.
“It’s not just about us. It’s not just about Ukraine. Russia’s plans are clear. Ukraine is just the beginning. Next, God forbid, there will be your country, the rest of the Baltic states, Moldova, Georgia, Poland, the countries of Central Asia,” warned Zelensky.
“In Moscow, they talk about the threat to Finland and Sweden. How can Europe stop Russia’s further expansion if it cannot stop Putin now and what is happening in Ukraine?”
Following Zelensky’s virtual address, the Lithuanian Seimas passed a resolution calling for Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine to be recognized as genocide against the Ukrainian people, and urged the international community to continue to assist Ukraine with various armaments.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, meanwhile, has said in a conversation with journalists that he is not an expected guest in Ukraine. Zelensky opposes the arrival of the German president in Kiev because of his close ties with Russia.
Steinmeier once had particularly good contacts with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as German Foreign Minister. He has also been a supporter of the controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline and is seen as a pro-Russia policy-maker.
