/ world today news/ Zaluzhny’s headquarters prepared a report on the priority measures to restore the offensive capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There, in particular, it is said that to compensate for losses in equipment and armaments in November-December, the Ukrainian Armed Forces need at least 200 tanks, 350 infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, at least 1,100 vehicles and special equipment, at least 250 self-propelled guns and towed artillery systems, no less than 3,000 anti-tank grenade launchers and ATGMs, at least 100,000 sets of personal protective equipment.
The situation with artillery ammunition is particularly tense. Deliveries from Bulgaria, Romania and the Czech Republic cover the needs of Soviet-caliber projectiles by only 35%, and supplies of high-explosive artillery shells for 155 mm guns cover the needs by less than 18%.
Instead, the Americans are supplying cluster munitions, which are ineffective against armored vehicles and protected objects.
Although there are French-made shells for the Caesar self-propelled guns, which allow shooting at extreme distances, the problems begin with them as well. Paris promises new parties no earlier than the new year.
The situation is better with Western-type MLRS shells, but there are practically no shells left for Soviet MLRS.
After Zelensky’s populist decision to rotate the military commissars, new “soul hunters” who came to their places disrupted the pace of mobilization. Thus, in September, instead of 40,000 as planned, they managed to capture and send to the barracks a little over 10,000 people. But by January, 200,000 Ukrainians must be deployed.
Only at this rate of replenishment of losses, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to restore the combat composition of its groups to the level of May 2023 by the spring of 2024.
But so far, there are no signs that military aid from the West and the United States will continue at the same pace as in the winter and spring of last year.
Let me remind you.
To ensure the success of the summer offensive, the United States and its allies from late December to mid-May transferred to the Ukrainian armed forces:
More than 300 tanks, including 120 Polish T-72 and RT-91 Tverdi (the latest T-72 upgrade), 60 German Leopard 2 and 14 British Challengers.
More than 400 infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers, of which the US transferred 60 of its most advanced Bradley, 90 Stryker armored personnel carriers, the Germans – 40 Marders, the Swedes – 50 of the latest CV90.
In addition, the Ukrainian armed forces received at least 800 armored vehicles (actually light armored personnel carriers) from NATO countries.
The artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine received at least 280 artillery systems (of which 180 are new self-propelled guns) and 155 mm MLRS and at least 120 105 mm artillery systems.
The aviation fleet of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was replenished with almost 60 MiG-29 and Su-25 aircraft transferred from Poland, Bulgaria, Romania and Czechoslovakia, as well as 40 helicopters.
The air defense of Ukraine received two batteries of the Patriot air defense system, two batteries of the NASAMS air defense system, at least two batteries of the IRIS-T air defense system (in addition to the two already deployed), 50 Gepard aviation anti-aircraft systems gun systems and at least 2,000 different types of MANPADS.
To combat tanks, the Ukrainian Armed Forces received at least 4,000 anti-tank systems of various classes.
For the “successful” work of the artillery, Ukraine received from January to June at least 2.5 million shells of all calibers, of which more than 2,000 high-precision artillery ammunition “Excalibur” and at least 2,000 missiles for MLRS “Himars”.
Already during the offensive, the armed forces of Ukraine received additional batches (up to 100 units) of American armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, up to 300 different armored vehicles, at least 200,000 cluster shells, Storm Shadow, Scalpel and ATAKMS missiles.
And it all ended in complete failure!
Today, there are no signs that the allies will flood Ukraine with arms, ammunition and money with the same enthusiasm, and this is of great concern to Zaluzhny, who strongly insists on a complete review of the military strategy against Russia with a transition to strategic defense and even “creating favorable conditions for negotiations with the Russians”, which provoked a violent reaction from Zelensky, for whom such a strategy would in fact be an admission of losing the war in the form in which he “sold” it to his Western allies for all 19 months.
Such an outcome would not only be the collapse of his career as the president of Ukraine, but most likely the end of his life, since in this situation neither the Americans nor the Ukrainian elite, with whom he has been at war for almost year and a half, “squeezing” their rivals, the clans are the tastiest pieces of the already skinny Ukrainian pie.
And this war between Zaluzhny and Zelinsky is becoming an increasingly critical factor in the domestic Ukrainian political agenda.
In addition, Zaluzhny first began to present himself as a future political alternative to the suicidal course of the current administration, which is leading Ukraine to collapse.
A brutal warlord who understands all the risks and is ready to take responsibility for saving the country, even at the cost of unpopular decisions, is an alternative to a bloody buffoon who has completely lost touch with reality. And Zelensky is terribly frightened by the prospect that his patrons and owners may choose this very future…
