Zelensky and Netanyahu thanked the US for military aid – 2024-04-21 06:09:53

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today thanked the House of Representatives of the US Congress, as well as personally its chairman Mike Johnson, for “putting history on the right track” after the lower house of the US Parliament approved military aid to Ukraine, reported Reuters .

“I am grateful to the US House of Representatives, both parties, and personally to the Speaker (of the House of Representatives) Mike Johnson for the decision that put history on the right track,” the Ukrainian head of state wrote on the X social platform.

Aid to Ukraine, which was voted on separately, is in one bill with military aid to Israel and to Taiwan totaling $95 billion.

President Zelensky also stated that the bill, which must now also be approved by the upper house of the US Congress – the Senate, “will prevent an escalation of the war, will save thousands of lives.” “It will help our two nations become stronger,” the head of state of Ukraine wrote, as quoted by Reuters.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the US House of Representatives’ approval of billions of dollars in new military aid shows strong support for Israel and “protects Western civilization”.

A total of $13 billion in military aid has been allocated to America’s historic ally in its war against Hamas, despite growing international concern over the fate of civilians in Gaza.

In a post on social network X, Netanyahu said: “A review of the status of Gaza is currently expected: “The US Congress has just overwhelmingly passed a very valuable aid bill that demonstrates strong bipartisan support for Israel and protects the Western civilization. Thank you, friends, thank you, America!”

Israel’s foreign minister added that this “sends a strong message to our enemies”.

“The vote on the Israel aid package with overwhelming bipartisan support demonstrates the strong ties and strategic partnership between Israel and the US and sends a strong message to our enemies,” Israel Katz wrote in X.

“I hope it will pass the Senate soon with strong bipartisan support,” he added.

Katz thanked House Speaker Mike Johnson for his “leadership that led to the effort to pass the Israel aid package” and House Minority Leader Hakim Jeffries “for his support.”
