Indeed. I do not understand what you would choose this device when a recently proposed Sony A7C with the same form factor costs “only” 2000 euros.
Because it says lightroom on it. That means that you can take and edit your photos with a device and maybe even set them to ‘insta’. Is that something you need? No. Is that something I need? No, but I do recognize the need.
I regularly take photos that I want to share with someone quickly. I create them with my dSLR, download them on my phone, edit them a bit (contrast, brightness, nothing complicated) and forward them. Those photos are much more beautiful than the photos I take directly with my phone, but they also take more time. I appreciate the idea of reducing that time. What goes wrong with me is:
- I still have my phone with me.
- A phone is lighter than a camera, so editing on the phone is nicer.
So what I would gain with this set-up is that I don’t have to transfer the photo from my camera to my phone. And to be honest, it quickly takes a minute. So I could save many minutes with this camera. That’s not worth $ 6,000 to me, but I’m not going to argue that it’s not worth anybody.
Imagine you are a press photographer and you can edit your photos immediately after taking them and send them to your publisher. You save ten minutes a day, 50 minutes a week, 32 hours a year: I see a business case. Unfortunately, a press photographer will prefer a completely different type of camera.
Incidentally, this is more something for artists with a substantial grant.
