Zeeland will have a fast and direct train connection with Schiphol

The accessibility of the province is improved in two steps:

Late 2021
There are currently two Intercity trains on the Zeeland Line (Vlissingen – Roosendaal), but they do not live up to their name and stop at every village. This will change from December 2021. There are then three trains per hour: two Sprinters that stop everywhere and one Intercity that only stops in the cities.

The introduction of a real Intercity will save travelers to Rotterdam and further in the Randstad from the end of next year a time saving of 20 minutes, because there are no stops at small stations such as Rilland-Bath, Krabbendijke and Kruiningen – Yerseke.

Between 2023 and 2025
The greatest progress will only come in the period 2023-2025. The NS will then start an Intercity Direct connection to Zeeland, which will in any case run on the high-speed line between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. In this way, the people of Zeeland also have a direct connection with Schiphol.

The exact timetable has yet to be designed, but this will reduce the travel time between Vlissingen and Schiphol to less than two hours, compared to at least 2.5 hours now. Moreover, there is no longer an annoying switch (and a dragging of suitcases) needed in Rotterdam or Leiden.

In the early years, this train runs once an hour. Later it will be investigated whether the frequency can go up to twice an hour. The NS will use the new ICNG trains on this connection, which will enter service from next year and are capable of 200 kilometers per hour.
