To fight against black sellers, the Chinese car company Zeekr has promised to block the multimedia screens of its cars, stopping the use of all functions.
Zeekr has decided to fight against the unofficial sale of its cars in foreign markets through “grey market” schemes, so it has warned car dealers in Kazakhstan that the screens of the electric vehicles will go to prevent them from returning to China. At the same time, the players of the Russian market still do not know how the blocking device will work, Motor.ru writes.
Zeekr electric cars confirm their location thanks to a SIM card installed in the cars from the factory. However, after the delivery of the models to Russia, the Chinese card will be replaced by a SIM card of a local operator, as a result of which the electric cars cannot confirm their location.
The manufacturer has announced that electric cars manufactured after July 15, 2024 are subject to restrictions, so Russian gray market operators are taking a break from supplying Zeekr cars at that time this.
At the same time, some experts say that Zeekr will not be able to make a big impact on the market in this way, at least not in Russia, because there will be craftsmen who break the system the device’s electronics, solving all the tasks.
Other experts believe that Zeekr is not interested in official sales of its models in Russia, because although the Chinese brand is known in this country, there is no official distributor of Zeekr products in Russia and the sales volume is not so important.
Zeekr, which is Volvo owned by the Chinese company Geely, also sells its cars in Europe.
