Zedekiah’s cave reopens with “secrets under the walls” vision

The Zedekiah Cave in Jerusalem opens to the public starting August 1, 2023, after being closed for the past three years for renovation and upgrading of infrastructure and content.

Jerusalem’s Cave of Mysteries and Legends now offers an immersive and mesmerizing vision called “Secrets Under the Walls”, which is conducted as a tour projected at stations on its dark walls, into the depth of the cave, into the story of a city and a people, into the Mesopotamian world of the First Temple period, the legends and myths of the Second Temple period and many other secrets.

In the depths of the cave we will meet the mythological cherub from the Ark of the Covenant, the legendary “dill worm” with the help of which the stones of Solomon’s temple were carved, the spring that flows from its depths, and also members of a secret order who believe that from here the first “headstone” in history was carved. We will join Zedekiah’s journey to exile in Babylon and end with the rebuilding of Israel after 2000 years of exile.

Minister of Jerusalem and Israel’s Tradition, Meir Parosh: “This site is a cornerstone of Jerusalem, this is where our story begins. I see great importance in every child visiting here during the years when they are learning about their history.”

Director General of the Ministry of Jerusalem and Israel’s Tradition, Assaf Yazdi: “The location of the Zedekiah Cave is important and strategic. The Ministry of Jerusalem and Israel’s Tradition is investing hundreds of millions of shekels in partnership with the Jerusalem Municipality in the development of economic and tourism projects in the area, with the aim of turning the northern basin of the Old City into a lively space for Israeli visitors and tourists from around the world.”
