After the zebra mare “Andara”, the zebra lady “Farai” has now also given birth to a little foal.
While many people in the city are groaning from the heat, most of the animals are showing up in the Linz Zoo unfazed by the warm temperatures. Especially the animal species from southern countries feel at home in the outdoor enclosures, says a supervisor.
For example, the youngest offspring in the Linz Zoo. Because with the zebras originating from Africa now brought the Zebra-Dame „You Will“ a little foal was born.
After the mare “Andara”, this is the second Chapman’s zebra to be born in a very short time. The foal has not yet been named because it does not yet have a godmother – but the zoo assured that the practice of naming all animals would remain in place.
The two offspring of the Chapman’s zebras has long been a big hit with visitors, especially children. Another heat-resistant “piece of Africa” romps about in the newly created ostrich enclosure. The ratites don’t mind temperatures above 30 °C.

The numerous monkeys in the Linz Zoo also feel comfortable in the heat, in contrast to the red pandas, who retreat to their hiding places for a siesta these days.
The Linz Zoo is considered a cool place, especially in the summertime. Due to the many trees on the area halfway up the Pöstlingberg, the zoo also offers people enough opportunities to cool off in the shade.
The popular night safaris in July and August also recently started. They are fully booked to the last seat. However, there is still the opportunity to take part in special tours such as “Entomologist for a day”. More information at www.zoo-linz.at.
