It was 1956, 16-year-old Zdzisław Wardejn left his home during a demonstration of tram drivers. He did not take part in the Poznań June strikes, but he was detained by the militia. — Passers-by joined the crowd, including me, he said in 2005 in an interview with the weekly “TeleTydzień”.
“They didn’t want to let me in. Everyone stood there as if paralyzed.”
The family did not know why the teenager was not returning home and reported him missing. On the same day, a young man was killed in Poznań. — This boy was bandaged and lying naked. My mother said, “This is my son.” She buried this boy – the actor said in an interview with “Super Express”.
Zdzisław Wardejn was released from custody and returned home after three days, just on the day of the funeral. — They didn’t want to let me in. Everyone stood paralyzed, and I stood at the gate. […] They kept asking if it was really me. After some time, the godfather came to me and started crying – he said in an interview for “Tele Tygodnia”.
Seeing the reaction of his relatives, the actor thought that the family’s fortune had been returned or the political system had changed. — Besides, my mother always threatened me with family court. She said there would be a family reunion and they would send me to a reform home. So when I saw relatives from all over Poland, I thought: they want to send me to reform school when I am innocent, he said.
He saw his own death certificate on the table. “It was a traumatic event,” he recalled. He explained that the deceased man was shot in the head and his face was bandaged, which made identification difficult. The death certificate was annulled after two months, Wardejn said that he had actually been “dead” during that time.

He was looking for something easier to do and joined the school’s drama club. When he finished technical school, he was already playing in a semi-professional theater.
The mother was not satisfied with her son’s career path. When he told her that he would become an actor, he heard: “What a shame!” – She wondered how she would admit that her son had become an actor, and therefore a clown – said the actor.
