“In view of the economically fragile situation, the skilled trades expect the future government not to overburden the performance of small and medium-sized businesses, but on the contrary to strengthen them through relief,” explains ZDH President Hans Peter Wollseifer on the occasion of the federal government’s autumn forecast further economic development.

“Our companies currently have to assert themselves in an environment with numerous special effects – with the supply bottlenecks and the price explosion for a number of materials, with energy costs, with the open demand for skilled workers and the emerging again tense corona situation. In view of this difficult situation, ours Companies are challenged to the maximum in order to get through these troubled times economically successfully. The next federal government must ensure that taxes are manageable, social contributions do not continue to rise and bureaucracy does not overwhelm our craftsmen.

The future coalition must find a way that enables climate protection and economic success in equal measure. The cost burdens from climate protection, energy and transport turnaround must not get out of hand. Because only with a strong economy and strong craft businesses will we be able to finance and meet the climate protection challenge.

The future government must significantly increase its efforts to make vocational training more attractive and to promote vocational training financially on an equal footing with academic education. Because the central key to securing skilled workers is vocational training. We also need fair, comparable starting conditions in education – not first and second class, but only world class. This equivalence of vocational and academic education must be laid down in law and lived in everyday political life. This is dictated by the fact that the prosperity and economic strength of our country can only be secured in the future with sufficiently skilled craftsmen.

It is essential for modernization to finally consistently adapt our infrastructures and administrations to the requirements of digitization and to bring them up to date. In addition, tax relief impulses are long overdue, where, for example, improved depreciation conditions could immediately provide impetus for additional investments. It is absolutely advisable to improve the accumulation reserve in a way that is friendly to small and medium-sized enterprises in order to strengthen internal financing and thus the investment power of German craft trades as well. A future government must do everything in its power to permanently stabilize the total social security contribution at 40 percent of gross wages beyond 2021, so that employers and employees, especially in the wage-intensive trades, are not further burdened and the competitiveness of companies does not decrease. “
