ZDF’s Sketch Comedy “We are the Meiers” Premieres in June, and “ZDF Comedy Summer” Returns

On June 2nd, Oliver Welke says goodbye with his satire show “today’s show” in the summer break, the two ensemble members Lutz van der Horst and Fabian Köster will be a week later with a «today show special» go on the air with Deutsche Bahn. The focus is on the multi-generational Meier family, which shows the lines of conflict, talkabouts, excitement and the zeitgeist of Germany in 2023. In a wild mixture of characters, absurd situations and topics, Boomer meets Generation Z, Swabians meet Berliners, Wokeness meets tradition, as ZDF describes the show.

The special thing about the ZDF sketch comedy: All members of the 13-strong ensemble appear in several roles. Thanks to an elaborate mask, Matthias Matschke, for example, is transformed into Ron Meier, a hot couple’s masseur, into Christian F. Meier, an unscrupulous top Berlin politician, and into Guido Meier, a hapless tourist guide. Furthermore, Valerie Niehaus, Bettina Lamprecht, Holger Stockhaus, Simon Pearce, Jasmin Schwiers, Jürgen Tarrach, Claudia Rieschel, Lou Strenger, Leon Seidel, Lovena Börschmann Ziegler, Balthazar Zeibig and Maria are in front of the camera of the Bavaria Fiction and Gerda Film production Matschke Engel directed by Jan Markus Linhof and Lutz Heineking jr. to see.

“We are the Meiers” will be broadcast until August 4th, the season finale will be a double episode. There will be eight episodes in total. Following the sketch show, the public TV station will be broadcast six times “The ZDF Comedy Summer”. In the shows, which are presented by changing hosts, the stars of German stand-up comedy hold hands.
