Zdeno Chara will get the chance to rewrite history this season

On the eve of his 24th season in the National Hockey League, Chara will have the chance to rise to the top of the list of defensemen who have played the most games in the NHL. To date, the Slovakian defender has played 1,608 games on the highest circuit in North America.

Chara is only 43 games behind Chris Chelios, who holds the mark for the most-game defenseman in the NHL. Barring an injury, the veteran defenseman should easily reach this mark and now sit at the top in front of big names in hockey such as Chelios, Stevens, Murphy and Bourque.

In 1608 games, the big guy has amassed a total of 666 points. He also spent a total of 2000 minutes in the dungeon.
