Zdeněk Prokeš, a well-known football defender and legendary figure of Vršovice “Bohemka”, died at the age of 71. The former Czechoslovak representative and former captain of Bohemians Praha 1905 played 19 matches in the colors of the “Klangaros” and in 1983 won the only championship title in the club’s history. “In Ďolíček, we will never forget this legendary football player. In the home match against Sparta, we will honor his memory with a joint minute of silence.” he announced the Vršovice club on its website.
Zdeněk Prokeš was born in České Budějovice and played for the Bohemians Praha 1905 club between 1974 and 1985. He played 294 league matches in the green and white jersey, which was a club record for many years, before being surpassed in February 2022 by midfielder Josef Jindřišek.

For Czechoslovakia, Prokeš played 19 matches as “Kloka” and scored one goal. “He was an inconspicuous, modest football player, absolutely reliable in defense, but always ready to attack the opponent’s goal. He had enough of everything a good full-back should have. He consistently performed at the top. In his time, he was the top player in this position in our country as well within the whole of Europe,” reminds Bohemians, adding that he played 11 seasons for the Vršovice club.
The club from Ďolíček expressed its deep condolences to the family and survivors, saying that on August 10 they will remember the legendary footballer with a minute of silence before the home match against Sparta.
