Zbrojovka Brno has not started the new season according to their expectations, as they currently sit in fifth place in the second division table with a five-point deficit. The discussions surrounding the team have had a peculiar atmosphere, as both sides have been critical. “No one has asked for our opinion in a long time,” noted one supporter. MF DNES has selected four key topics that were discussed at the Srbský stadium yesterday.
The first topic discussed was the future location of the team. The director of the Portiva group, Pavel Svore, revealed in recent interviews that the realistic option for the club is to stay at Srbský and negotiate the construction of a new stadium at Výstaviště. “We don’t want to deceive the fans with empty promises. We would love to stay at Líšeň. We will do everything we can, but we are not the only ones involved. There are other players, the city, and other entities with their own interests,” explained Svore.
Svore’s vision leans towards the possibility of building a new stadium at Výstaviště, but he considers it a distant future and believes that the city of Brno will play a crucial role in the decision. “The city will have to be a key player in the construction. Our group has experience in building and managing properties. Hypothetically, we could participate in the construction, but we would also need to contribute to the surrounding infrastructure,” added the company manager, who oversees a shopping center in Kladno.
The second topic discussed was the team’s lack of cohesion. The main creator of the team, sports manager Zdeněk Psotka, admitted that the team is not playing well together. He promises several changes in both directions. “After the fourth round, I said that I want to get five players out and bring five in. That still stands. Moreover, there is still plenty of time until the 8th round, when the transfer window closes. Currently, contacted players are waiting for offers from top league teams before negotiating with us,” explained Psotka.
Coach Luděk Klusák advises his colleague to focus on defensive reinforcements, while Psotka’s main concern is finding a new playmaker. ”We are looking for a player who can control the game, who speaks Czech, who can lead and motivate others, and keep their head up,” stated the manager.
The third topic discussed was the acquisition of the club by the Portiva group. Concerned fans questioned Svore’s involvement and whether the acquisition is certain. A recent article on the Portiva website raised doubts, stating that the group has not yet entered Zbrojovka and is only associated with Svore. “Our company mainly operates in the fund sector, where we are heavily regulated. Portiva will become the final owner of the club, but technically, it was easier for me to act on behalf of the club initially. After announcing the acquisition plan, regulatory authorities questioned whether everything would be in order from a financial and business perspective,” revealed Svore.
However, he assured that there is no threat to the agreement. “I cannot imagine anything that would hinder the acquisition. We are currently conducting an audit to have a detailed understanding of the club’s situation. There is no reason to worry,” dismissed the concerns.
The final topic discussed was the team’s ambition to become a regional brand. The panel members unanimously agreed that Zbrojovka Brno should become synonymous with football excellence in Moravia. However, the team has struggled to establish active cooperation with other clubs. “I have spoken to all the clubs in Brno and the surrounding area. We discussed their desired role in the regional club hierarchy, their goals, and we found common interests that we want to develop in the future,” stated Psotka.
He also emphasized the importance of nurturing relationships with talented youth players. In recent years, many young players have left Brno due to a lack of playing opportunities and the perception that the club does not prioritize their development. “When I arrived, I encountered a problem that I did not expect. It was the response of many people towards the club. I don’t blame them personally, but the fact that Zbrojovka is not seen as a desirable destination. We need to change that, but it won’t happen overnight,” concluded the manager.
In conclusion, Zbrojovka Brno is facing challenges both on and off the field. The team’s performance needs improvement, and there are ongoing discussions about the future location of the club and its ownership. The management is determined to make necessary changes and establish a strong regional brand.
