They asked for help from the Institute of National Remembrance

It is not known whether the work has revealed a mass grave from World War II or a completely different burial. Unfortunately, it was not possible to determine how the remains were arranged in the ground – the excavator had already disturbed them.

The expert has so far estimated that the remains were in the ground between 80 and 120 years ago. Local residents claim that during World War II there was supposed to be a German labor camp in the area. Investigators intend to verify this information. – We will study the historical context of what could have happened in this place during the war – says prosecutor Jakubowski.

The Institute of National Remembrance was also notified about the found remains, as part of which special units dealing with this type of case operate.

Not only human bones

As Jakubowski informs, the preliminary examination did not indicate that the remains could belong to the victims of any execution.

– There were no coffin fittings, clothes, any crosses or buttons – says the prosecutor.

Next to human remains, there were also animal bones, probably belonging to a dog.

– The place where the remains were found has been secured and is inaccessible to outsiders. This area on the construction site covers about 1/20 of the entire site. This fragment has been taken out of service, work may be continued in the remaining area, informed the prosecutor Jakubowski.
