As the municipality of Zäziwil has announced, the municipal council has approved a loan of CHF 275,000 for taking over the water pipes from WAKI.
Put simply, the Kiesental water association (WAKI) works as a producer and supplier of drinking, service and fire-fighting water, while the municipality distributes the water to households via its own networks and ensures fire-fighting protection.
All systems for extraction, storage, processing and transport to the supply areas of the adjoining communities form so-called primary systems and are owned by WAKI.
The WAKI has significantly expanded its regional pipeline network in the last 20 years and created four new transport pipelines in Zäziwil alone. The previous primary systems in the Reutenenstrasse, Thunstrasse and Schorachgässli sections will thus become secondary lines.
Water pipes are to be taken over at market value
This means that they are no longer needed for transport, but now for the distribution of water in the supply area and are therefore ceded to the community. According to the WAKI operating regulations, this takes over the line sections at their current value.
The municipal council approved the takeover of the relevant lines over a length of 915 meters and approved the required loan of CHF 275,000. The expenditure is at the expense of the special financing water and is subject to the optional referendum.
At least five percent of those entitled to vote have until May 2, 2022 to sign a request for the loan approval to be submitted to the municipal assembly for a decision. The documents are publicly available for 30 days at the municipal administration or can be viewed here.
