However, she wanted to stop everything… In 2010, the French music scene discovered Zaz with her hit I want, a catchy song that would quickly become the hit of the summer that year. After this first success, these follow one another for the singer who released her fifth album in 2021, entitled Isa. A reference to her birth name, Isabelle Geffroy, which she left when she started to take the stage name Zaz. However, over time, it became cumbersome for the artist, always on the road or in the studio, to the point that she sometimes forgot who she was outside of music.
“Zaz took up all the space”
An awareness for Zaz, who arrived before confinement, as she confided to the microphone of Sing Franceexplaining that he thought of stopping everything and even “to kill” his character. “I wanted Zaz to die“she confided bluntly, assuming her “excessivité” with humour. However, we understand that this feeling then emanated from a deep discomfort for the singer, who, after ten years on the road for concerts, wanted more than ever to take care of her. “Zaz took up all the space and I didn’t take care of my personal life“lamented the artist, admitting to having made this observation when she “meet someone” and had “want to build” something with that person.
A “loss of identity” for Zaz
“I had a loss of identity, I no longer knew who I was without Zaz“said Isabelle Geffroy, who, for this fifth album, even thought of changing her name. “I went into a kind of analysis, it was hell”, she admitted. In the end, all’s well that ends well for the singer, who explains that she needed to go through these moments of long reflection to “find something more peaceful”. And finally get back to singing under the name of Zaz, while keeping his personal goals in mind. Thus, after getting married in secret, the singer now wants to taste the joys of motherhood. “Of course I want to become a mother. And I’m working on it!”she had insisted to Tele-Leisure.
