Liam Payne died this Wednesday October 16 at the age of 31. The former “One Direction” member fell (or jumped) from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. “Liam James Payne, songwriter and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo,” police wrote in a statement.
At the moment, not much is known about the exact circumstances of his death. In its press release, the police specified that they had intervened following a call “reporting an aggressive man who may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol”. Liam Payne had openly spoken about his problems with alcoholism and the difficulties linked to fame. In 2023, he admitted to having been admitted to a rehab center for his alcohol addiction.

Thursday afternoon, while the reasons which pushed Liam Payne to jump are not clear, the singer’s family broke the silence: “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever be in our hearts and we will remember him for his kindness, humor and courage. We support each other as best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space during this terrible time,” read a statement relayed by The Sun.

Former members of the One Direction group also reacted, via Instagram. Harry Styles writes: “I am totally devastated by Liam’s death. Making people happy was his greatest joy and it was an honor to be by his side. He wore his heart on his sleeve and had contagious energy. I will miss him forever. »
For his part, Zayn Malik wrote: “I lost a brother when you left us and I can’t explain to you what I would give to give you one last hug and say goodbye properly and tell you that I loved and respected you deeply. I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever. »
