Abu Dhabi, October 11 / WAM / Zayed Al Kathiri, the national team player for Jiu-Jitsu, is intensifying his preparations to participate in the first edition of the “Abu Dhabi Extreme” tournament, which will be held on October 20 at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi, by undergoing daily training under the leadership of his coach, Ibrahim Santiago, and the professional player, Bruno Machado.
Zayed Al Kathiri, 23 years old, who holds a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and a gold belt in the 14th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, will face his Brazilian counterpart, Thalison Suarez, in the “Super Fight in the Suit” match.
The Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship competitions bring together the sports of grappling and jiu-jitsu inside the cage, with and without a suit. Participants in the tournament also have the opportunity to compete over a period of two years on different continents of the world through several specialized rounds for this type of mixed martial arts, with the best being crowned. Championship belt in 2025.
Al Kathiri said: “For the first time, I am participating in a unique challenge that combines jiu-jitsu and grappling, and being the first Emirati to participate in this game is a great motivation for me to appear in the best way, especially since it precedes the most important tournaments in which I participate, “Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu,” which begins. He continued: “I was chosen to participate in the first edition of the tournament after winning the historic gold medal in the last edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which prompted the organizing committee to nominate me to represent the Emirates in this forum, which increased the burden of responsibility on me to achieve the best result.
Al Kathiri explained: “I started training in the camp more than 6 months ago, and I will continue with the coach until the start of the championship competitions, after which I will also participate in the Abu Dhabi International.”
Al Kathiri added that the achievements he achieved during the current year in the Grand Slam tournaments and the Pan American Championship will motivate him to achieve more achievements.
