The Brno footballer Pavel Zavadil sees the promotion from the second league and the return of the club to the highest competition as one of the last great successes of his long career. The seasoned midfielder, who will celebrate his 44th birthday on April 30, also feels that Zbrojovka will have to strengthen in all directions for the first league.
He has crashed since the end of November due to muscle injuries and has not yet known whether he will continue his career.
After an evening draw between the people of Vlašim and Vyškov 1: 1, the people of Brno won the final first place, which is the only one that means a direct advance. There are four rounds left until the end of the competition. “It’s beautiful to secure progress so far. But at the same time, it’s binding for all of us at the club to continue working intensively,” Zavadil said in an interview with CTK. “It’s one of my last great career successes,” he added.
Zbrojovka passed the second league quite confidently. From the 8th round, coach Richard Dostálek’s charges led the table and gradually increased the lead. So far, they have only lost four times in the second league season. “The basis was created by a great group, the boys pulled on one rope. At the beginning of the season, we clearly said what the goal is before us and how to reach it. We succeeded in advance,” Zavadil remarked.
The seasoned midfielder, who returned to Brno in the summer after four years in Opava, played eight matches in the Zbrojovka jersey this season in the second league and scored a single goal. He has not intervened in the game since November due to muscle injuries. “I feel better now, but it’s not 100%. We’ll see, I’d like to kick the ball this year,” Zavadil said.
He will be 44 years old in a few days, but even a respectable age for a professional footballer does not make him think of a definitive end to his career. “I haven’t thought about it yet. Of course I’m old, my injuries are coming back. I can’t plan so ahead in football, especially at my age. I’ll see what happens in the summer,” Zavadil said.
Despite the strong dominance of his club, he considers the second league to be a very balanced competition. “When I played in the second league a few years ago in Opava, there were bigger differences between the teams. Now it’s more balanced, but at the expense of quality. The difference between the first and second leagues is big in it. to have a chance to stay, “said Zavadil.
According to him, it is clear that the team will need to be strengthened to be competitive among the elite. “I don’t think it’s just my opinion, but also the people in charge. But I don’t know what their plans are, I’ll leave it to them,” said Zavadil, who won the 2003 title with Sparta.
An experienced midfielder had more time to devote to young players in the Brno staff, as the club management also hired him as a mentor. “There are good young guys who can be worked with and who can be stable first-league players. Now they in particular have to realize the huge chances they face. They will play the first league in a club with a renowned brand and they must use it to their advantage. “The club must drive them forward,” Zavadil added.
