Zarate’s Predictions: Week 2

The San Francisco 49ers earned their first win of the season by defeating the New York Jets 32-19 on Monday Night Football. That game was played at Levi’s® Stadium and for Week 2, San Francisco will be visiting the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday, September 15. The Vikings also won in Week 1, defeating the New York Giants 28-6. It looks to be a good game between two teams that will enter with 1-0 records. Here are my predictions for the game against Minnesota.

Jones Under 100 Rushing Yards Against SF

Let’s start with the 49ers defense, which looked pretty good against the Jets, by the way. Here, my prediction is that San Francisco’s defense won’t allow the Vikings’ dangerous and talented running back Aaron Jones to top 100 yards rushing. In Week 1, the Jets’ also excellent running back Breece Hall was allowed just 54 yards on 16 carries. It’s only one game and the season is long, but the 49ers showed us how fierce their defense can be in limiting the damage on the ground from big-time running backs.

Brock Purdy Passes 300 Passing Yards in Minnesota

On offense, I think Purdy will throw for over 300 yards against the Vikings. Against the Jets, the 49ers quarterback fell short of that milestone, gaining 231 yards on 19-of-29 passing attempts. However, Purdy ran the offense very well, even putting together eight consecutive drives with at least one field goal after San Francisco had to punt three times during its first drive of the game. While San Francisco has had plenty of success on the ground with running back Jordan Mason, through the air Purdy has shown us many times how good he is at keeping the offense on the field.
