Zaragoza will increase taxi rates by 0.9% for next year
Zaragoza City Council plans to approve a 0.9% increase in the city’s taxi rates that will come into effect in January.
The measure responds to a request from the sector, which has already tried without luck this year. In addition, the Provincial Autotaxi Association has requested a reduction in the number of vehicles deployed on the streets during weekends to adapt the offer to the curfew.
In the case of the increase in rates, the percentage planned for this 2020 will be applied and that was not finally carried out.
“They approved the increase in March, but it would have forced us to update the taximeters, something we do in January and which carries a cost,” explains Miguel Ángel Perdiguero, vice president of Autotaxi.
At present, the lowering of the flag between 7:00 and 22:00 in the Aragonese capital is 1.85 euros, with a cost per kilometer from then onwards of 0.82 euros.
In the case of nights, weekends and holidays, these rates amount to 2.65 and 1.19 euros respectively. From next January 1, all of them will rise 0.9%.
Curfew
On the other hand, taxi drivers have also asked the City Council for permission to cut the offer in half during the weekends. Specifically, they propose to go from the 888 taxis that now circulate through the capital on Saturdays and Sundays to 444 every day.
Currently the Zaragoza taxi works on weekdays with 40% of the fleet.
In this way, they say, they want to adapt to the curfew decreed until November 9, then it will be the DGA that will decide whether to extend the restriction.
The proposal is on the table of the Public Services area, which is studying it, although except for surprise it will also be accepted once the data on user demand presented by the sector has been analyzed.
According to the provincial association, Zaragoza taxi drivers are facing a “dramatic” situation these months with 65% less turnover, in part due to the decline in customers linked to nightlife and hospitality. Therefore, they demand help from public administrations.
