Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov confirmed that Bulgaria sent self-propelled artillery units (SAU) “Gvozdika” to Ukraine. He clarified that this is an armament with no longer a need, which is why an explicit new sanction of the National Assembly is not required.

Bulgaria has sent eight packages of weapons, equipment and ammunition to Ukraine. All are strictly in accordance with decisions of the National Assembly. This was explained by the Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov in response to a question about photos released on social networks that Bulgarian self-propelled artillery units “Gvozdika” are located in Ukraine.

“I confirm that the packages included such equipment. What there are as pictures, as comments, I cannot confirm that this is exactly a Bulgarian howitzer “Gvozdika”, since all the countries of the former Warsaw Pact currently continue to support Ukraine and send the same such systems – 120 mm systems , shells,” he said.

The minister specified that for every weapon and ammunition provided to Kiev, Bulgaria will be financially compensated: “We expect very serious sums. This money we receive, as decided by the parliament and the government, will be reinvested in the modernization of the ground forces and other types of armed forces.

Atanas Zapryanov emphasized that hard work is being done on the acquisition of new 155 mm self-propelled howitzers, and for this purpose the common European initiative will be used to reduce the costs of their acquisition.
